Anxiety For Food. Why Does It Appear And How To Treat It?

Anxiety For Food. Why Does It Appear And How To Treat It?

I have the anxiety to eat " or " Come on at night and eat for anxiety " are two common expressions that, without statistics in hand but with the experience ahead, can be the most listened to in consultation, especially in those who won't lose weight and often do not achieve it, or do not have a balanced and healthy relationship with food.

It is for this reason that due to a large number of people seeking help behind this so-called "joker" lawsuit - I have the anxiety to eat - we wanted to devote an entire article to deepen, clarify and contextualize this reality. Are you ready? Let's get started!

The word anxiety is used very often and sometimes it would even say a little "light", it is a generalized term. What we know is that anxiety is defined as a symptom, a signal ... as a reaction of people to a given situation or moment, which especially worries us too much and that is why we feel this feeling of: not arriving at this / not to give the size / not to the height or simply, not being able to control.

Often anxiety is capable of causing us a feeling of despair, which seizes our body, and also causes physical feelings as well: the heart is able to beat stronger or our hands are overweight ... This overwhelms us and even gets us scared. And it frightens us in such a way that our reaction is to flee, cover, anesthetize, anything that "serves" to fade it. And here the food becomes our main ally to get rid of it for a moment.

But what perhaps no one has taught you yet is that despite our keen desire to get rid of anxiety, the more we intend to make you see that it does not exist, the more you will charge and the more powerful it will return. Then what was once to chop between hours, slowly becomes more and more disorder, or in more quantity of food, more ingested without sense, ... and at the same time, our discomfort is increasing without hope to find an exit

At this point, a large number of people believe that the solution to the problem is to follow a diet, look for someone who controls what he/she is not able to control: when he eats, how much he eats, how he eats, what he chooses for eating, etc. Perhaps in some cases, a process of nutrition education with a nutrition professional will be a solution according to the problem. But in many others, it is very common to observe that dietary intervention is not sufficient, and it is necessary to deepen the individual and internal aspects of the person, to help us understand and understand this behavior we have with food and what we call " food anxiety ".

For this reason, two of the realities that I intend to translate into these lines are:

If episodes of urgency to eat or food disorder occur rarely in our daily lives, or at very specific moments of our lives, without our being a source of intense concern for us, it is advisable to reflect and keep in mind that we can all feel at some point that our relationship with food is destabilizing and is not a constant.
If we feel that our "problem" is that we have anxiety to eat or that has become a difficulty as such , it is essential that they clarify that the problem is not food or our way of eating, or this feeling of urgency, skin-eating is nothing more than a manifestation of the true personal problem, an alternative that we have so far found to handle anxiety, among other reasons, why we have not been able to solve it in a different way. we have resorted to food as a "provisional" tool to improve it

It is in these cases in which or if several solutions have been tried on our account or dietary aids without results, it is essential to consider the possibility of seeking the help of a psychology professional, specialized in understanding what personal difficulties They can be masked in these eating patterns that are characterized by uncontrolled.

Anxiety as a signal has come to visit us to inform us of something, it is another messenger dove as it is our emotions, that bring us their message, their function, their use, their usefulness and it's meaning in our lives. And until we pay attention and stop looking for alternatives in food, we will not start to be on the right track to solve this root problem.

Therefore, it is essential that if we feel identified with these lines, we understand that psychological help and emotional support can be very helpful in knowing new ways and ways of working without resorting to food by giving it functions that do not pertain

Food is an innate source of pleasure (but not the only one) and a need for our body to function well, but it should not become a source of discomfort, nor a mediator of our emotions let alone our currency of change of the personal difficulties we all have.
